With traditional tools (like Google search or a calculator), we usually offload work to a machine.

With workslop and schoolslop, something subtler happens: we offload work to another human through the machine.

  3. The receiver must invest time to interpret, correct, or redo it.

When this triangle is clear, workslop and schoolslop have less room to grow.


What Practical Rules Can You Apply Tomorrow?

Let’s get concrete. Here are some simple rules you can adopt right away.

For workers

  • Never forward raw AI output. Always revise, cut, check, and contextualize first.

  • Write the “human spine” first. Sketch key arguments or bullet points, then let AI help with wording.

  • Add a “quality check” step. Before sending, ask yourself: Would I stand behind this if my name was on every sentence? (Spoiler: it is.)

For students

  • Use AI as a brainstorming buddy, not a ghostwriter. Ask for ideas, counterexamples, structures — not final essays to paste.

  • Summarize in your own words. After reading AI output, close the window and write a short summary from memory.

  • Compare versions. Generate two or three answers, then analyse differences: Which is more precise? Which is more shallow? Why?

For teachers and leaders

  • Make AI use explicit in assignments and policies. Define what is allowed, what must be declared, and what is off-limits.

  • Grade process, not just product. Ask students or employees to show drafts, prompt history, or reasoning notes.

  • Celebrate good AI use. Share examples where AI truly helped deepen insight or save time without lowering quality.
