5:07 PM | ,

January 2, 2023 marks the 103rd anniversary of the birth, in 1920, of the writer and biochemist Isaac Asimov. Asimov is known for being a prolific author of works of science fiction, history, and popular science. The prolific writer passed away in 1992. Asimov, a Russian-American polymath and author of Foundation has many famous quotes to his credit. To celebrate his life, writing, and accomplishment, here are five which describe his vision of life and the world.

He is perhaps most famous for his “Three laws of robotics,” which state that:

(1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

(2) A robot must obey the orders given by human beings except where such order would conflict with the First Law.

(3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Asimov wrote and edited some 500 volumes. The most famous are those in Foundation and the Robot Series.

Isaac Asimov quotes

Perhaps one of his most exciting quotes refers to computers. Asimov wrote: “I do not fear computers; I fear the lack of them. ” ― Isaac Asimov.

This a profound quote that speaks a lot about society. “The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge fast than society gathers wisdom.” ― Isaac Asimov.

This quote speaks for itself. “People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.” ― Isaac Asimov

Asimov’s poetry was deep. “Tell me why the stars shine, why the ivy twines, Tell me what makes skies so blue, And I’ll tell you why I love you. Nuclear fusion makes stars shine,

Tropisms make the ivy twine, Raleigh scattering make skies so blue, Testicular hormones are why I love you.” ― Isaac Asimov.

“Intelligence is an accident of evolution and not necessarily an advantage.”

― Isaac Asimov.
