What's inside a Black Hole?

1:34 AM | , , ,

What's inside a black hole is anyone's guess, and science is still struggling to provide us with any answers. Which brings us to Enrico Rinaldi , a researcher at the University of Michigan  who recently published a study.

He and other researchers decided to use quantum computing to unravel what's inside a black hole, yielding a surprising result.

According to Rinaldi, both the universe and the black hole could be a hologram, as per the study published in PRX Quantum .

This study is a deeper look at what could actually be inside one of this black hole, and also an attempt to understand holographic duality. Which is nothing more than a mathematical conjecture that tries to connect theories of particles and their interactions and the theory of gravity.

The holographic duality

Holographic duality, in its essence, understands that the theory of gravity and the theory of particles are both equivalent, so mathematically the theory of gravity happens also in the theory of particles.

While gravity describes three dimensions, particle theory only consists of two. In this way, the researchers believed that by probing on top of this idea, it would be possible to understand what is inside a black hole.

“IN EINSTEIN'S THEORY OF GENERAL RELATIVITY, THERE ARE NO PARTICLES – THERE IS ONLY SPACE-TIME. AND IN THE STANDARD MODEL OF PARTICLE PHYSICS, THERE IS NO GRAVITY, THERE ARE JUST PARTICLES,” SAID RINALDI. “CONNECTING THE TWO DIFFERENT THEORIES IS A LONG-STANDING QUESTION IN PHYSICS – SOMETHING PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DO SINCE THE LAST CENTURY.” HE SAID.

Using quantum matrix models and connecting these two theories, the researchers were able to further study the graphic duality. This matrix model used is made up of a block of numbers, which is a standard structure in quantum computers.

And in this structure, the theory of particles is represented by one-dimensional strings, which according to Rinaldi, helps researchers to find the ground state, which is very important to allow creation from it. As such, they are able to create models that can be used to describe what gravity is like inside a black hole.

But is the universe a hologram?

When we talk about holograms, we automatically think of models that are common in science fiction movies and video games. In this study, the hologram pointed out by researcher  Rinaldi is very different from what we imagine.

He uses both theories to understand what it would be like inside the black hole, that is, how it works when the interior comes into contact with the outside using the theory of gravity as a basis, so it would be represented in 3D, but on its surface. it would be two-dimensional on account of the particle theory that is not capable of functioning in three dimensions. So it has a holographic appearance because we don't see it as a 3D object.

It is important to note that this is a study and not a real proof, but there are some people who believe that the rest of the universe can work this way.

It is indeed a very interesting study.
