Recovering Gaza: Aerial Views of Destruction & Hope for Restoration

11:12 PM |

The Gaza Strip looks like a wasteland from space, before and after Israeli attacks. The shocking images from space.

The shocking satellite images of Gaza, captured before and after the Israeli air strikes, tell a tale of devastation. Neighborhoods reduced to rubble, condominiums collapsed, and landscapes transformed into a lunar-like terrain. These photos, captured on Saturday by Maxar Technologies, vividly portray the damage inflicted on the Izbat Beit Hanoun neighborhood's four- and five-story buildings.

The Devastation in Izbat Beit Hanoun

Located on the main road to the Erez border crossing, the Izbat Beit Hanoun neighborhood has been severely impacted. Several multi-story buildings, once prominent landmarks, are now barely standing. The area, once vibrant, lies in a state of desolation, with two large complexes reduced to piles of rubble. Some buildings are missing massive sections, while others are split in half.

The Housing Crisis in Gaza

The Hamas-run Ministry of Housing estimates that approximately 45 percent of all housing units across the territory have been entirely destroyed, rendered uninhabitable, or damaged. This severe housing crisis has led to an estimated 1.4 million Gazans being internally displaced.

Palestinians Flee Northern Gaza

Thousands of Palestinians from northern Gaza have been forced to flee their homes following an advisory from the Israeli army regarding their safety. However, some have had to return north due to ongoing attacks in the south. For instance, Al Karama, located on Gaza's northern coast along the Mediterranean Sea, has seen significant activity. Israeli attacks have also struck areas behind the main coastal road, which hosts several hotels.

In the face of such destruction, the resilience and spirit of the people of Gaza stand tall. As the dust settles, the focus shifts towards recovery and restoration, offering a glimmer of hope for a brighter future.
