The timeline of human arrival in America has always been a topic of debate. Previous evidence, primarily tools and artifacts, indicated human presence in America dating back only about 13,000 years. This evidence suggested that humans arrived in New Mexico post the Ice Age, further presupposing that groups had traveled from Siberia to Alaska and then moved further south as the ice melted.
However, the recent study posits that humans could have been present in New Mexico between 21,000 and 23,000 years ago, implying their arrival in the region predated the end of the Ice Age.
The preservation of these ancient footprints might seem surprising. The footprints were created on moist ground near a lake and were subsequently covered and solidified by sediment. Over time, erosion revealed these unique footprints, as reported by the New York Times.
