Renate Loll's Journey Through the Multiverse of Space-Time

Renate Loll, a theoretical physicist at Radboud University in the Netherlands, has ventured into numerous digital universes, exploring 3D worlds, plains, and fragmented realities with fractional dimensions. Through her research, Loll has uncovered a myriad of cosmic stories that challenge our conception of reality, leading her to believe that nothing is preordained.

Loll's work focuses on deciphering quantum gravity, a theory that underlies Einstein's understanding of space, time, and gravity. By combining geometry, quantum theory, and causality, Loll hopes to unveil the fundamental structure of reality without the need for rings, strings, or extra dimensions.

For over two decades, Loll and her team have used digital triangle models to develop their theory of causal dynamical triangulations (CDT). This approach has demonstrated that combining multiple possible universes can generate a cosmos similar to our own. Additionally, Loll's research has revealed unexpected quantum structures on short scales—a result of the merging of worlds.

Recently named a Knight of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands, Loll spoke with Quanta Magazine about her journey as a space-time simulator, the creation of possible universes, and the future of quantum gravity. From her initial background in economics to her groundbreaking work in high-energy physics, Loll's pursuit of understanding gravity and the structure of space-time continues to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos.
