An asteroid could hit Earth on Valentine’s Day 2046: NASA’s alarm

Based on some projections, scientists said that an asteroid could hit Earth on Valentine’s Day 2046: NASA’s alarm should not be underestimated, despite there being only a "small chance" that the impact will occur. The space rock, called 2023 DW, is the only object, to date, in the list of those classified as "risky" for our planet. According to scientists, there is one chance in 700 of colliding with the Earth.

NASA scientists have stated that the probability of impact could be significantly reduced as more comprehensive data are collected. Often, in fact, it takes several weeks to reduce the uncertainty of calculation and predict how asteroid orbits will change in the future.

It is therefore entirely normal that newly discovered asteroids appear more menacing than they actually are. It may take a few days before new data can be collected due to the asteroid’s proximity to the Moon. The last full moon occurred two days ago and precluded direct observation of 2023 DW. Then, however, the object will be visible for several weeks, so that we can obtain all the data we need, says NASA.
